Shape Oval and roundish.
Size Slightly inferior to Tuber Aestivum.
Peridium Warty black in color with poorly developed warts.
Gleba Dark hazel to chocolate in color with numerous pale branched veins.
Spores Widely honeycombed, with well-defined reticulum, clustered in asco up to 5 and have long, curved hooked papillae.
Scent Pleasant and delicate.
Ripening October to December.
Habitat Prefers well-ventilated and drained structured clay-limestone soils, moist and little sun, but can also thrive in more compact soils but as long as free of prolonged waterlogging. It prefers constant temperatures, not tolerating large seasonal temperature fluctuations.
